Brad and Angelina took in some tea with William and Kate, in Kensington Palace. Apparently the topic of discussion was "illegal wildlife trade" (according to a Will/Kate/Palace PR person), of which is a shared interest. I hope that Brad and Angelina don't take William and Kate seriously--especially William. My personal impression of both of them is that they want to do as little work as they can, in exchange for sucking as much as they can out. To me, they both have slapped their names on worthy causes, with little to no follow up work (especially Kate--but I know more about her, than William).
Angelina was also in London at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for a UNHCR luncheon. My thoughts about this private tea with William and Kate is that a) William and Kate wanted to meet Brad and Angelina. I get that. They're huge celebrities everywhere, and b) that perhaps William and Kate want to.....not necessarily "team up" with Angelina, with her Centre that is in London, but maybe do something. Have a fundraiser, kiss babies, and take pictures. I don't know. If I am right, well I just hope William and Kate start getting more involved in charity work, than doing below the bare minimum that they do already.
But I'm sort of hoping that I am just being a crazy person, and imagining things. Oooh, or have the Queen involved. I am not a fan of the monarchy in general, but I do like the Queen. And Prince Philip, that foxy, old man.
I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't see this as a big deal or anything shocking? Angelina is still (I'm assuming) promoting "Unbroken" (which has made a little over 100 million worldwide), overseas, as she spoke to an Italian magazine--"Io Donna" (smart move, considering Louis Zamperini's family came from Italy, and coincides nicely with the promotion/screening at the Vatican) about her wedding details.
" Before the wedding in France with the kids, Brad and I were already married in California. As Americans, we couldn't marry legally in France. One day I said to Brad "Let's just meet up at 4:30?" I called a justice of peace, and we signed the documents. "
I don't know much about the actual legalities of getting married, etc, but I am not surprised that they got married in secret-secret, before the 'real' wedding. I do wonder how long ago they signed those documents. It would be funny if it had been shortly after they had gotten engaged, or even right before she had her double mastectomy surgery. I suspect we'll never know.
Also--this goes to show how media savvy Angelina is. Instead of parceling out personal details about her wedding, interview by interview, like some celebrities do, she's telling us stuff that's interesting to hear, but gives away no real personal detail. Like we know that they got married in a small chapel that's on their land. She wore a dress designed by Versace, there were very few guests (and the only famous guest was a blurred out David Fincher), and their son, Pax, made their wedding cake. The majority of these details are explained by the pictures, and Angelina has basically been reiterating the same details, over and over again--but saying it differently. She's good at that.
Angelina has continued to film her third directorial effort, By The Sea, while Brad Pitt is off selling Fury with the rest of the hot cast. I'm only covering this because Angelina needs to dress like Vanessa every. single. day. of. her. life. Because she looks GOOD. Now, I can't even really talk trash about anyone's sense of fashion, because I'm not any better, but I sometimes get sick of Angelina's all black ensembles. Especially when she verges into fugly territory, with nude flats, and weird ruffles on her dresses. I mean, I don't even like shopping, but if I had her kind of money, you'd see me in nothing but amazingly tailored jeans, blouses, and awesome coats and boots.
So when I was looking at the Dailymail, I came across a few pictures of her on the set of By The Sea, wearing an absolutely fabulous cheetah print hat, some cool and different sunglasses (for her), and what looks like a tan/beige (?) blouse. The pictures are here.
She looks awesome. She loves the '70s. You can tell in the kind of jewelry she likes--her Style of Jolie line is chock full of giant stones. Angelina needs to dress like this a lot more often.
Also--she should totally wear some/all of her Style of Jolie collection in the movie. It would be a great promotion and it would be great jewelry porn. That's how I got through The Tourist--Angelina and Johnny had zero chemistry between each other (don't even get me started on his charactor/plot twist--which I hated), but Angelina was gorgeous, and they had her dressed to the nines.
Lastly--that's Melanie Laurent in the car next to her! I couldn't tell if it was her in the first few pics. I wonder if she and Angelina's character get into some kind of a mess while the boys are away.
Angelina Jolie's former nanny, Cis Rundle, has been talking to the press. About how she helped Marcheline Bertrand (Angelina Jolie's mom) take care of Angelina and James Haven when they were younger. About how she and Marcheline were friends.
My first thought was that if they were such good friends, why is she going to the press and talking about them now? I get the feeling that she wasn't all that close with Marcheline or Angelina and James, as time passed--otherwise she wouldn't be talking about them to the press. She'd be keeping her mouth shut (when tabloids called her), and continue on with whatever relationship that she has with Angelina and her family.
But what Ms. Rundle said was rather interesting. There's the typical 'Angelina was an anorexic cutter' stuff, which meh. We all know (well, those who read her interviews) that as a teenager, she self harmed quite a bit, and wasn't the happiest person. That is a standard Angelina Jolie story. But then it gets interesting.
Cis Rundle explains the infamous Oscar kiss between Angelina Jolie and James Haven, on the night that Angelina won Best Supporting Actress, for Girl, Interrupted. She says,
“The day she kissed Jamie at the Oscars, it was the first day Marcheline was treated for cancer. They left the hospital together and got ready together. Nobody in the world knew that they spent the day in the hospital. It was like, ‘Look where we’re at now. But the world saw something incestual. It was meant to be ‘Here we are.’ They only ever had each other. They had a very tight relationship with each other and their mother.”
So there it is, the kiss explained. Angelina and James were at an emotional high point that night. Not only was it one of the best nights of Angelina's career, and one of the lowest for her personally. Her mother had just started her treatments for the cancer that would ultimately kill her. Her father (as he would soon show), had a propensity for discussing her personal life to the media, and so they weren't very close. She and her brother only had each other. And their mother.
One of the thoughts passing through my head, as I read this was that it affirms just how much integrity Angelina really has. How easy would it have been for her to explain away the kiss with her brother, with an explanation of what was going on with her mother? Very easy. She could've said it in an interview, or dropped a line to a tabloid. But she didn't.
Wow. According to EW, Angelina Jolie has just signed on to direct a biopic, Africa, which tells the story of a (white) Kenyan Richard Leakey. He was a man who protested and fought against elephant poachers in the '80s and '90s. It is written by Eric Roth, and is backed by Skydance Productions.
I am loving this new phase in Angelina's career. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE her onscreen. She always stands out on screen for me. Even if the movie is horrible--Alexander--she is almost always the best person in the movie. But she's now a woman who is making a second career in directing and producing.
To be even more blunt, she's a woman who isn't relying on her looks or fame to keep her career going. She realizes that she needs to push her career further and further--that she can't just keep doing the same old, same old. She realizes that there is new talent coming, and that no, she won't always be the person who every director/producer in town is running to. No one is.
And the best part is that she's doing something that will open more and more doors for women to be taken seriously by producers and studios in Hollywood. We need more representation of female director and producers. Right now, it's Angelina, Megan Ellison, Susan Downey, and Kathryn Bigelow.
And I love that she's picking interesting projects with some kind of meaning to her. So I can't wait. I can't wait for Unbroken, or By The Sea.
