Chris Rock wrote and directed a new movie, Top Five, which comes out on December 12th--it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September.
First, I have to say that I am so glad that more and more POC's are getting into directing. There needs to be more of that--and women. But you can tell that this is a 'black' film (and no, not just because of the cast), because this movie premiered at TIFF, and the media didn't say jack about it. All I heard from TIFF was about how amazeballs Jennifer Aniston was in Cake (really?), and a little (awesome) something about Shelter (Paul Bettany's directorial debut)--but nothing about Top Five, which I'm reading more and more about it being Chris Rock's best film in forever and an age--such as Paramount Pictures buying the movie for over 12.5 million dollars--the best deal to come out from the festival.
But I guess gossips aren't interested in Chris Rock.
This looks really funny. I like the 'spoof' of his own life, and that he can make fun of himself. I'm also giggling at Gabrielle Union being the girlfriend/fiancee that wants to put on the show for the cameras--girl, we all know why your engagement ring was so big. We were on a break, my butt. And Rosario Dawson was a nice 'surprise'. I feel like I haven't seen her in anything for a long time.
Overall, I'm glad that Chris Rock seemed to get people--women--who are talented, and not just eyecandy. Looking at this trailer made me feel like we were in a Real Husbands of Hollywood spoof--should've gotten Boris Kudjoe for some extra eyecandy.
